IAHR_Special: Hydrodynamics of Open Channel Flows: Legacy of Professor Wlodzimierz Czernuszenko

Convenors: Pawel Rowinski (Polish Academy of Sciences), Vladimir Nikora (University of Aberdeen)

Professor Czernuszenko has been one of pioneers in studying open-channel flow turbulence and its effects on mixing, dispersion, and sediment dynamics. His insightful laboratory and field experiments as well as analytical and numerical models largely laid the way to modern methodologies of environmental hydraulics and its applications. He can be regarded as one of key contributors to open-channel hydrodynamics, particularly in Eastern Europe. The session will celebrate the achievements of Professor Czernuszenko who passed away on 18th of July 2022 and will focus on the recent developments in the key areas of the hydrodynamics of open-channel flows where Professor Czernuszenko was particularly active. The selected speakers have collaborated with him over different times and continue many of his research initiatives.
